Road to C.I.M - 8 Weeks till Race Day

Updated: Feb 7, 2022

Weeks till C.I.M: 5

Weeks of Training: 14

Total Miles Run: 527.4

These last couple of weeks have been the highest mileage of my life. I have bounced back and forth between my love of running and my need to procrastinate. As of late, 5 and 6 am runs have become the norm in order to get all my work done during the day. I am currently half way through my final quarter of my graduate program. There aren’t enough hours in the day. I have tried my best to schedule my longer runs and workouts at 7 am, thats the start time for my marathon in December. This is a great opportunity for me to figure out my fueling options for my pre-race dinner and my pre-race fueling.

8 weeks till running race day

The midweek workout Cory assigned me this week was fairly simple: 2 x 5 Miles at a Steady Pace.

It’s been a hot week in Santa Barbara with temperatures in the mid 90’s. I love it! I’ve always thrived the heat, as long as the humidity stays low. Anyways, I went out with a little too much confidence on the workout. I dropped the pace down closer to tempo effort, and as the miles accumulated I was in race mode, trying to survive. I could hear Cory’s voice in my head telling me to slow down or to cut the workout short. I don’t know if I was lead my stubbornness or my fear of cutting the workout short. I was left with an interesting feeling at the end. My splits for each mile were above and beyond what I thought I could do. However, I was left with a sour taste in my mouth. I asked myself if I had executed the workout properly and achieved the intended results?

Marathon training is definitely a learning process. From time management to the workouts we can take away some new every day. Every week comes with new challenges, but mainly some great feelings and emotions. Looking forward to my 20 miles this sunday, it’ll be the longest run of my life!
