One of Philadelphia’s biggest and best races takes place the first weekend in May. The Broad Street 10 Miler was a big race for Run Your Personal Best athletes and marked the end of a training cycle geared to peak for Broad Street.
There were 10 athletes running in the 2015 Broad Street run with a wide range of abilities that ranged from the first-timer to the competitive runner. We had 9 personal bests set at the Broad Street! Here’s a recap:
- Keith C. set a 5 mile, 10k and 4-minute 10 mile personal best running 1:02:25
- Meghan M set a 2 minute PB running 1:17:55 and even stopped for a bathroom break
- Adam T crushed his previous PB by over 6 minutes running 1:26:16
- Diana ran a solid 1:45:47 while Ellie coming back from an injury with minimal training ran 1:44:22
- Big congrats to 1st time 10 milers today Matthew - 2:00:38, Kristen - 1:40:38, Valerie - 2:29:08 and Tracy - 3:10:02
- While I cannot take credit for Eric and Karen’s results (because they just joined to the team) they ran a solid 1:53:07
The weekend following Broad Street, Adam T (below) lined up again at the Cape May 10k and walked away with a 2 minute PB, running 52:10. Another congrats goes to Adam and his wife as they just recently welcomed a new baby boy (pictured below).
Matt F took another shot at lowering his 5000m time at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet which boosts some the best college and post-collegian runners in the area. Matt walked away with another PB of 15:55, the 2nd time Matt has broken the 16 minute 5k barrier. Then just days later Matt took a shot at winning some cash at the Teal Ribbon 5k and Springfield 5k and was successful at both, taking home 2nd place overall at Teal Ribbon and 1st overall at the Springfield 5k. Nicely done. It’s nice to walk away with some money as a result for your hard work.
Last but certainly not least, a huge congrats to Ben L who successfully passed his SWAT team physical fitness test. This was an absolutely huge accomplishment. Ben had unsuccessfully tried to pass the test many times however kept coming up short on the 1.5-mile run, which he needed a time of 13:00. Ben showed up the day of test after months of hard work and crushed the needed time of 13 minutes by running 12:24! Ben is now on his way to realizing his dream of becoming a NJ SWAT team member.
